Design a Home Business Website

If you’d like to design a home business website, deciding what type of website to create can be confusing.
  • Your Store Front
  • Website Enhancement
  • Screen Resolutions
  • Website Design Layouts
  • Website Background and Text Colors

You will basically have two choices – develop a sales site or a content site. A sales site is simply a store in which you display your products and enable your visitors to purchase. Content sites are different as they aren’t direct sales sites. Content sites sell by educating visitors and then introducing your products or services to further assist them.
Once you have decided on the type of site you’d like to develop, you can then design your site around the products. The important thing to remember is that every part of your website should have one specific purpose – to get your potential customers to purchase your products.
Let’s look at some of the key components of a quality website.
Although the main page of a personal website is known as a home page, the main page of a sales site is known as the storefront.
It is very important that your storefront loads as quickly as possible when a potential customer arrives at your website. It should also give the visitor a good idea as to exactly what you’re offering.
When designing your storefront, less is more. Instead of trying to place all of your information within your main page, create sections for each type of information. You can then include a small sample of the information within each section and then link to additional information on separate pages.
To keep your web page load time down, avoid using large or too many graphics, animations, special effects, and large page sizes. If your web page takes too long to load, your visitors certainly won’t waste much time waiting. This will result in lost sales.

There are many ways you can enhance your website without using a lot of graphics. For example, you can use special ASCII Character Codes to add colored bullets to your links and many other characters. In addition, you can use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to add color to your pages in many ways, such as highlighting, background colors, and section dividers.
A good rule of thumb in regard to graphics is if they don’t somehow enhance your page, it’s best to not include them.
When designing your web pages, it is very important that you test the pages to see how they look in different screen resolutions (visit AnyBrowser). The resolution is determined by the number of pixels the monitor is capable of displaying. Not all monitors are created equal, and your page needs to look good when viewed with different monitors and browsers.
Another consideration when you design a home business website is your site’s layout. There are basically four types of layouts to consider:
Fixed: A fixed website design uses a specific width that doesn’t change when viewed with different screen sizes and devices. And, although this is a simple and easy way to get a website up, it isn’t recommended as it doesn’t display well when viewed through smaller screen sizes.
Adaptive: An adaptive website design uses media queries to detect and display a website according to the device size (monitor, cell phone, tablet, etc.). This type of design requires you to create different versions of a website.
Fluid: A fluid website design uses percentages for widths which enables a website to scale up or down according to the screen size.
Responsive: A responsive website design enables a website to display properly in a variety of different screen sizes by resizing and adjusting the layout according to the browser or device. This is the preferred design layout by many including Google.

A very important part of designing a great website is the navigation. If your customers can’t easily navigate your site, and they can’t find your products, you won’t be making many sales. Place your navigational links at the top, side, and bottom of your web pages.
When selecting your web page colors, it is very important that you select your colors very carefully. Colors can affect your mood and will also have an effect on your visitors.
A great way to select your colors is to do so based upon the type of effect you’d like to achieve. For example, if you’re looking for a cheerful or happy effect, use bright colors, such as orange or yellow. If you’d like a calming effect, use purple or blue. However, dark colors, such as black and brown may have a depressing effect and should probably be avoided.
Although you may be tempted to use fancy backgrounds and colored text, this makes the text very difficult to read and should be avoided. It is always best to use a white background with black text. However, there are a few exceptions to using text colors, such as headings, sub-headings and emphasizing certain words.
Take some time to educate yourself about web design, Search Engine Optimization, and Internet marketing prior to developing your website, as each will play an important part in your success.
The most important thing to remember when you design a home business website is that your site’s main focus must be your product. Every part of your website should have one specific purchase – to lead your visitors to your sales page.

7 Online Marketing Tools That You Need In Your Digital Arsenal

FEB 26, 2019

There are a ton of online marketing tools out there. How do you know which ones are the best ones to work with? You could take a trial of every marketing tool available, but that takes up too much time.
The other option is to read this article to find out what the top tools you need to add to your marketing arsenal.

1. Google Analytics & Search Console

As soon as you set up your website, get it connected to Google Analytics and Google Search Console. It’s easy to do when you’re running a WordPress site. Sign up for accounts in Google, then install a plugin like Yoast SEO to connect your site with both tools.
Google Analytics will give you the information you need about traffic. You’ll know where it comes from, how long people stay on your site, your most popular content.
Search Console will tell you if your SEO is working or not. Find out how your site appears in search results. You’ll know what search terms your site show up for, how many people see your site in search results, and your click-through rate.

2. Social Media Schedulers

There’s nothing worse than feeling like you have to be on social media all of the time. How can you run a business if you’re constantly distracted by posting? A social media schedule lets you post your content in advance.
There are a ton of social media schedulers available. Which one should you use? It depends on what social networks you use. For Pinterest scheduling, Tailwind is the tops. For Instagram scheduling, Later is a good choice.
If you’re on multiple networks, check out Buffer or Hootsuite.

3. Content Generation Tools

One of the hardest things for site owners to do is to pump out good content on a regular basis. Using tools like Grammarly will make sure you avoid misspelled words and basic grammatical errors.
Copyscape is another content tool that will ensure that your content isn’t duplicated elsewhere. Duplicated content can hurt you in search results.
One of the most important content tools is a good headline generation tool. A headline is what tells someone to read the rest of your copy. It also encourages conversions.
If you’re stuck on creating content, especially for an international audience, check out this company. They’re a content marketing company in Ecuador that creates leads, opportunities and sales.

4. Email Marketing Tools

When you do get traffic to your site, you’re going to want a way to capture those visitors. Email marketing is the best way to do that.
MailChimp is recommended here because it’s free for up to 2000 subscribers. There are a number of great features for this email software like auto-response campaigns.

5. Image Creation Tools

Images are a hot topic for bloggers and content creators. Visuals are incredibly important to your website because people process images faster than text.
You always want to be sure that the images you use aren’t copyrighted works. That could get you in legal hot water.
Use sites like Pixabay or pay for an account at DepositPhotos to get quality images. These sites let you use images without the need for additional royalties.
Once you have those images, you can use an image editing tool such as Canva to create your image for your blog or social media posts.

6. Heat Mapping Tools

Google Analytics tells you so much about your traffic. The data doesn’t tell you the entire story, however.
A heat mapping tool lets you see exactly how visitors use your site. You’ll see how far down they scroll down on a page. That tells you how good your content is (or isn’t). If people aren’t getting past the first few paragraphs of a post or page, it’s a clear sign that you need to revamp the intro.

7. Keyword Research Tools

If you plan to generate any amount of traffic from SEO, you need a keyword research tool. You’ll know the search terms people use to find your product or service. You can also use a keyword research tool for content ideas.
Ubersuggest is one of the top keyword research tools out there, and it’s free to use.

Bonus Online Marketing Tools

There are a couple of more online marketing tools that you can implement when you’re ready to implement advanced marketing strategies.
The first is an A/B testing tool. This will help you analyze and optimize your landing pages and ads. A/B testing lets you create different versions of your ads. You can take one element of your ad, like a headline or an image, and test them against each other.
Whichever one shows better results is the one to keep using. You can then test another element and do the same thing until your conversion rates are through the roof.
One common mistake that people make with A/B testing is to create entirely new ads or landing pages. Don’t do that because you won’t be able to tell which part of your ad or landing page people are responding to.
One other tool you want to invest in is a remarketing tool.  Have you ever visited a website and then seen an ad for the same company a few minutes later while visiting Facebook or another site? That’s remarketing.
A remarketing tool lets you target your website’s visitors with advertising when they leave your site. One remarketing tool that’s widely used among marketers is AdRoll. It’s a great option because it integrates with Google and Facebook ad networks.

Online Marketing Tools are a Must

If you want to take your digital marketing to the top, you have to invest in online marketing tools. They make your online marketing more manageable through reporting, scheduling, and testing.
All of which are critical so you can constantly improve your digital marketing strategies. As you improve your digital marketing, you’ll notice more traffic, a more robust email list, more leads, and more sales.
That’s the power of digital marketing. Check out this article to learn how to create amazing marketing videos. https://www.articlecity.com/blog/7-online-marketing-tools-that-you-need-in-your-digital-arsenal/

5 Ways To Find (And Attract!) Your Dream Customer And Make More Sales

So you know exactly who your dream customer is because you've done the work and have nailed your customer avatar. Now you just need to find them and attract them into your business.

Simple!........ Or is it?

Where on earth do you start?

Don't worry - you've come to the right place! ;o)

[If you don't have a customer avatar and so don't know exactly who you want to target, it's important that you do this first. See our previous two blogs for guidance and a link to a free customer avatar to help you out;  What is a customer Avatar and why would you need one...? and Create Your Ideal Customer Avatar in 4 Simple Steps)]

Most people these days are hanging around on Social Media in one form or another. Given the advertising and targeting potential of these platforms, it makes sense to start here!

But first, start thinking about the types of interests that your customer avatar will have. What organisations would they like? What brands? What events, movies and fan pages? What Job title would they have? what celebrities would they follow? Would they network in professional social groups or are they more likely to use social groups and channels?

Answering these questions will help you when looking at each of the below channels and tactics.

1. Facebook

With over 2.4b Billion users on Facebook - this is a great place to start. But bear in mind the demographic. Facebook is geared towards a slight audience having been superseded by snap chat and Instagram for the younger audience.

Search for any relevant Facebook Groups with the search bar, join them and start to post helpful content that will help your target audience with their challenges and pain points and also position you as an expert.

As you build an audience, create your own invite-only Facebook group for the most engaged of your audience. You can target your audience using  'interests' on Facebook. If your dream customer is likely to follow a certain brand, celebrity or popular influencer, so long as they have a certain number of followers, you will be able to target their fans.

2. Instagram

Whilst Instagram was traditionally seen as simply a photo-sharing network, it is gathering huge pace with influencers all over the world. Images can powerfully encapsulate the message behind a post and many are including smaller versions of a blog post - continuing to communicate their message effectively through this unique platform.

If you know your audience, you will know who they are likely to follow on Instagram. You can follow these members in the hope that they will follow back, but you can also engage with them and comment on posts.

Make use of the maximum number of hashtags that you are allowed to use for each post, to help get your posts exposure and make use of Instagram Stories - as these are featured prominently above standard posts. You can reach out to other Account owners in your Niche to get shout outs and possibly JV with - and of course, you can make use of Instagram ads to reach your audience.

3. Twitter

According to Big Commerce The Verge Twitter has 126 million users daily (Feb19). Again, Twitter attracts a different type of audience. It is easy to see if your ideal customer is hanging out there by looking at key influencers in your niche and assessing the size of their following and interaction. You can also use the search bar to search for popular keywords, search terms and key phrases in your niche (use the #hashtag) to see if people are discussing these topics on Twitter.

To build a following you need to follow the right people. Identify the influencers or brands in your niche, that your audience is likely to be following and start following them. Interact with their posts and follow their followers. Interaction is the key, so make sure you reply, mention and retweet anything that is relevant to you and your niche. Use hashtags to make your content searchable, tweet other people's content and make use of videos, photos and live video to keep your followers more engaged.

4. LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a much more professional social network, so if you are B2B or provide services to professionals, this is a great place for you to start. Connect with people that are likely to be looking for your product or service. Join relevant LinkedIn groups. Don't start direct messaging people trying to sell, this is the worst thing you can do on this platform. Instead post useful content in relevant groups, again positioning yourself as an expert and gaining credibility and trust.

Notice the issues the group members are facing and see what information you can offer to help.  Create your LinkedIn business page so that when people click on your profile out of interest, they can be directed to your business page and website. And of course share plenty of visual and video content to keep your audience engaged.

5. YouTube

Video marketing provides one of the most popular forms of engagement, as demonstrated with the introduction of Facebook Live, Instagram Stories and now Twitter and LinkedIn Lives. YouTube is, therefore, becoming an increasingly important channel for business owners and entrepreneurs.

To see if your target audience is active on YouTube simply search for your top keywords or search terms and see how many results there are and what the view count is for the top results (you can filter results by view count). Views can be in the tens, hundreds, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands and millions! This will give you an idea of the demand for video content in your niche.

To attract your audience, build your video around a single topic or keyword. This will generate the right traffic and there are plenty of tools out there that can help identify volumes of search terms. Many people on YouTube are looking for answers to questions and tutorials - so provide valuable content and the tribe will build itself. By posting regularly, branding your channel (even creating a trailer for it) and of course engaging with people that comment or like your videos - you will increase engagement and keep your fans coming back and more likely to subscribe to your channel.

Summary

Needless to say, trying to tackle all of the above (without an in-house specialist or agency to use) is likely to feel overwhelming and will certainly take time. So take one step at a time!

Pick one social media channel to start with. Create your profile, identify where your ideal customer is and start attracting them using the above tips (and any others that you find online).

Once your first channel is up and running and you have a growth strategy, content plan and media schedule in place - you can hand it over to a VA to manage for you. You are then free to move onto the next channel.

(If are struggling with outsourcing - this post will help you: 10 Top Tips for Outsourcing Bliss!)

Of course the combination of all social media channels, when managed property and effectively will result in huge growth, particularly as you start to cross promote all of your content throughout all of the social media channels!

Good luck - and more importantly - have fun!

Start Your Own Online Business - Top Reasons Why You Should

It isn't easy to start an online business. Some people may lie to you and say it is the easiest thing they have ever done, but they are being at best unrealistic. Running an online business is as the name implies, "a business that is online". So there are certain rules you must follow in order to earn cash online (and do it the right way).
Even though there are challenges to running a business online there are benefits to it as well. In my view it is better to start a business online. Below I have listed some of the top reasons I believe this to be true.

The Traditional Way To Get Cash Is Becoming Outdated

There are a lot of people who have great ideas, but can never seem to the get them off of the ground. Many times this is due to lack of resources or the ability to properly fund their business. With the traditional business model there is normally a substantial investment. An internet business does not require this major investment (though there could be a small one).
Using the example of a brick and mortar store an owner must invest in their business only to have their money at times locked in the business itself for years. Many times it takes years for the store owner to recuperate their entire investment. With an online business model you would have less overhead and other means to store your inventory (such as drop shipping or as an affiliate). This means that inventory is not a requirement allowing you to ship product upon demand versus investing in the goods upfront.

Each Industry Dictates It's Threshold To Make Money

Certain industries require you to invest money to make money. Depending upon the industry itself starting small may be out of the question. The reason? In order to compete you must be competitive. To be competitive in the traditional sense may require a significant investment of funds from the beginning. This is not even mentioning physical location(s), staff and security issues.
However, a home based business that exists on the internet can grow as you grow. We all want to grow. With a smaller investment you can leverage your advantage for greater profits. If staff is required, the positions are minimal and physical security becomes one less thing for you to worry about (especially if you are an affiliate or you don't house your products in-house).

The Internet Is Becoming The Standard For Communicating A Business

The day is coming where if you're not online you don't exist. Even traditional brick and mortar organizations are now vying for a presence on the web.
The level of innovation new technologies are providing the entrepreneur online are endless. You are limited by your imagination and ambition.
With the internet you can make as much or as little as you want. This is determined by your willingness and effort to take your business to the next level. Will you press forward the wheel of innovation a success and become the next internet millionaire (or billionaire)? Or maybe you're not as ambitious and are only looking to take care of your needs (and maybe your families too)? An online business can provide you with this ability.

Create Your Ideal Customer Avatar in 4 Simple Steps

As I’m sure you already know, a customer avatar is a profile that represents your ideal customer. It's a very specific and detailed view of the type of customer you want to attract into your business.

We’re not just talking age, sex and geographic location - we are talking familial status, profession, salary, the car they drive, where they like to eat, what stage of life they are at, how they are feeling, what they are trying to achieve - and so on.

Why is this level of detail important?

It’s simple really. It helps you define 100%, who you are trying to attract into your business. When you know this, you can address their pain points and help them overcome their challenges, you can talk to them directly through your advertising, marketing and messaging and you are therefore more likely to appeal to them.

AND if you know who your dream customer is - you will be able to find out where they are likely to hang out online and create highly targeted (and therefore highly converting) ad campaigns. The more specific and targeted you are, the more sales, revenue and profit you will generate.

OK, that all makes sense…. But where do I start?

Great question. Here are 4 simple steps….

Step 1. We recommend using an Avatar template, like the one found on Digital Marketer (free download) or Einstein Marketer for a starting point. You will see from here the level of detail you need to go into to create an effective customer avatar.

Step 2. Allocate yourself some quiet time to really dive into this. It may seem futile but you could really reap the rewards by better understanding the type of person that you are trying to attract and help. The time spent here digging will come back to you in dividends - through increased sales, conversions and customers.

Step 3. Complete the form, being as specific as you can. Give your avatar a name and you could even find a photo online of someone that you think could look like your avatar. Try to get in their heads and take a peak at their life, so that you can answer the questions in the template. It may be difficult initially, but once you are in the flow you will find it gets much easier.

Step 4. Once you’ve completed the questions - it’s time to review your avatar. Think about some of your best customers and who they are, why they came to you (or bought from you) in the first place and what type of person they are. Make sure that whatever you have included in the avatar is consistent with this view of your actual customers (so long as you still want to attract this type of customer of course!)

And that’s it…. Now you have defined who you want to attract, it’s time to find them!

We hope that post was helpful. Please feel free to comment below with any additional ideas you'd like to discuss or to ask any questions.

Creating a customer avatar and defining your audience is just one out of 7 essential steps to growing your business online. Want to know the rest? Download you free eBook here, to streamline your focus and smash your goals!

How to Grow Your Business with Social Media Marketing

If you’ve taken even a cursory look into how to market your business, then you’ve most definitely come face to face with the term “social media.” These platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, have quickly risen to become a core part of establishing your business online.
If you’re new to the field, however, you might wonder just how social media should be so crucial to your business’s growth, and what benefits it can offer. Let’s take a closer look and help you get one step closer to dominating the online world.

First, to understand just how valuable social media can be, it’s important to understand that it’s massively popular. 69% of all adults in the US are active users of at least one networking site. That raises up to 88% for those between the ages of 18 and 29. Furthermore, the average user has multiple accounts. Out of Facebook’s two billion users, 1.2 billion of them are actively using the platform every single day.
To put it simply, social media offers a platform that you can use to get directly in touch with your audience. Rather than having to fight to bring them to your website or online store, they’re already using those platforms. You still have to put the strategies in place that help you get noticed and build connections with those social audiences, but the potential reach of the platform is undeniable.
If you’re looking for new clients and customers, then social media platforms can offer you a direct way to ensure your marketing reaches them. Most platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube, have advertising networks directly connected to them. By crafting advertisements built specifically for the platform, you can increase the reach and visibility of your products and services, leading to new customers.
You can make sure that your advertisements are aimed specifically at those most likely to convert, too. Targeted advertisements can be used to appeal to the demographics most likely to be interested in your services, using factors like age, location, occupation, and interests. Remarketing can take it a step further, targeting those who have visited your website before.

By most accounts, the website is the core of your online marketing strategy. It’s where your customers can find the information they need, where you can convert visitors into customers, and offers them a direct line to get in touch, to buy, or to find support. Increasing traffic to a well-designed, helpful website will increase customer conversions. However, a lot of businesses struggle with getting visitors to their website.
Social media isn’t the only tool used to increase traffic (we’ll cover SEO, later), but if you’re not on platforms, you could be missing an organic pathway that customers can follow to end up on your site. Creating a profile linked to your page and using networking platforms to share interesting content hosted on your site acts as the welcome mat. From there, they can share that link to others or further explore the site if you’ve managed to engage them effectively.
The majority of businesses use social media to find new leads to nurture and convert into customers. There are a variety of ways to do this. For instance, hypermedia is widely used to share content, such as blog posts, that readers may be interested in. You can gate certain pieces of content, meaning that users have to sign up to read more about the topics they’re interested in. This gives you a line on their email address, which can be used to guide them down the sales funnel further.
Other ways to grow leads include running contests for free products, discounts or prizes, for which customers have to give some personal details to enter. Or you can host hangouts, webinars, or live videos, addressing questions, or delivering informative and educational content. Once you get those customer details, you can further use tactics like email marketing to close the deal.

Search engine optimization is an online marketing practice that has become just as ubiquitous and as important as social media marketing. It’s the practice of improving your search engine rankings so that more web users can find your site more naturally. A lot of SEO is about making sure that your website is Google-friendly, with well-written, valuable content. However, they can improve your rankings as well.
Search engines like Google value the relevance and popularity of web pages. By sharing your content, you can improve the page’s ranking with every click. Furthermore, you can build the ranking of your profile itself, helping improve brand recognition and visibility.
Social media can be used solely as a channel for marketing, but the truth is that it has the potential to become much more. It can become the home of an online community growing around your brand. As your brand’s presence on social media grows, you should hopefully find your followers growing, too. Amongst those followers, some are going to be more likely to engage your brand directly.
By answering questions, getting involved with conversations, and providing support, you can build a connection to customers that fosters trust and loyalty. People are a lot more likely to further engage with a company that communicates directly with them, rather than just through passively reading marketing material and blog posts. This can greatly improve your reputation amongst your customers, creating loyal brand fans if you’re smart.
Those brand fans can help you grow your company even further by carrying your message far and wide. Positive experiences between a customer and a brand create loyalty but, on social media, you have an audience for those experiences, as well. This is part of the viral potential of networking. A company whose approach to customer satisfaction catches attention can quickly find themselves engaging with new customers drawn to that good reputation.
Establishing a healthy following on social media is a boost for your business, too. It acts as positive social proof, showing the market the evidence that your business has supported so. Thus, it’s worth supporting.
Social media offers analytics you can use to track the successes and failures of your online marketing campaign. By seeing how many people click on your links, share your posts, or otherwise engage, you can reinforce strategies that work and find the weaknesses that could use a little extra work.
However, you can go beyond the analytics to get a much broader understanding of the perception of your brand. Social listening is all about paying attention to what customers, influencers, reporters, competitors, and others are saying about your brand, about market trends, and about the industry in general.
By following mentions of your brand name, username, and other relevant terms, you can get a real insight into what people like or dislike about your products and services, customer pain points you can address, and so on. Some platforms, like Twitter, use hashtags that make it easy to follow discussions around certain topics, as well.
Knowing your rivals can help you grow your business and there is no better way to learn about them than to follow them and their customers on social media. By monitoring their own marketing efforts, you can see which of their own posts are more successful, and which largely go ignored. As such, you can build on their successes while learning from their failures.
Though some might consider it cutthroat, you may even be able to capitalize off those failures further. For instance, by following mentions of their brand, you can find dissatisfied customers and reply with a tweet, post, or comment that addresses their pain point directly, highlighting your own brand as the alternative that you need.
Brand reputation and integrity are hugely valuable. If people respect your brand and see it as an authority in the industry, then it means they’re more likely to become your customers than to join the competition instead.
By sharing great content through social media, contributing to conversations, and networking with other industry heads to share their content and get involved in their discussions, you can build a very valuable reputation. Besides making your company look like the go-to choice, it can open doors for PR opportunities, such as guest articles on trusted and widely read web publications.
