More and more people are using Instagram on a daily basis, which means more and more businesses are flocking to the platform to create a presence and build an audience.
So with all this noise - what can you do, to give you the best chance of getting seen by your target market?
Here are just SOME of the things you should be doing to build your Instagram profile.
Your Bio is Your Shop Window
- Make sure you have given your bio the attention it deserves. This is really important because it’s an opportunity for you to tell your followers (and potential followers) who you are, what you do and why they should follow you.
- It also will increase your chances of being shown in search results when users are looking for posts or accounts for particular search terms.
- Include an “I help” statement which demonstrates who you work with and how you can help them.
- Include a call to action. This can be a link to your website, your opt-in form or a special offer you are promoting and want to drive traffic to.
- If you have more than one link you want to share - try a free tool like link.tree which helps you make the most of your one link by hosting several links on one page. Ideal if you have several offers and landing pages that you want to promote.
Your Posts - Add Value, Entertain & be Consistent
- Chose a frequency of posts and stick to it. Whether this is every other day or four times a day - Be consistent.
- Use Instagram Stories to promote new posts.
- Always use the 30 hashtags that you are allowed for each post.
- Use an app like Plann to discover the most relevant hashtags for your business. Use a combination of high and low keywords to increase your chances of getting seen
- Make it Personal. Show your audience who they are following. Let your audience get to know you, like you and trust you. You can even show them behind the scenes and get them interested in your life and you. Be real, genuine and authentic.
- Offer Value. Provide something of value that will educate your audience, inspire and motivate them or entertain them. This could be sharing motivational quotes that resonate with you, tricks hacks and tips that will help them in their life or advice that you can offer in your niche.
- Promotions. It’s really important that you don’t use Instagram to just promote yourself. Of course that’s what influencers are doing but they are doing it indirectly, by providing value, helping for free and inspiring their audience along the way. That said your content should incorporate some promotional posts as that, after all, is why you are there. This could be testimonials, reviews and any offers that you have running.
Be Social! Like, Comment, Share - Engage!
People are on Instagram to be social, to network, to talk, to share ideas. So be one of them. Make sure you comment on other people’s posts, respond to comments left on your own posts, answer questions that people have and look for ways to connect with like-minded people that have the same interests as you.
Don’t just focus on the number of followers and number of likes your posts get - focus on creating and building relationships and a network of similar people all around you.
I know that's a lot to take in, but if you just start implementing one thing at a time, you will start to really build your audience and get seen! It's worth putting in the time in.
