I’ve just discovered Neil Patel’s free keyword search tool Ubersuggest and wanted to share it as it’s incredible. It draws data from Google’s Keyword Search tool but is much quicker and easier to use AND provides a much higher level of detail that will help you when deciding on what content to create.
There is no need to set up an advertising account or even a campaign to get this information (unlike Google Keyword Tool) so it makes for a really convenient and quick way to get data.
The only drawback I can see initially is that you can only seem to enter one search term at a time, which isn’t ideal if you have a list of keywords that you need search volumes for. And you can only choose one country to review at a time, unlike Google’s Keyword Tool where you combine the search terms for the countries you want to target.
That said, if you are at the initial stages of content creation and know the broad topic area that you want to create content for but haven’t yet come up with any specific titles or keyword phrases to target - this is an excellent place to start as it will give you plenty of ideas.
Ubersuggest for Keyword Ideas
It’s super easy to use - just enter your main keyword and select the country that you will be targeting from the dropdown box. The tool will then return the search volumes for your keyword as well as some keyword suggestions for you.
You can see in the example the results returned for the search term “Facebook Ads” along with the monthly search volumes on Google in the UK. The tool has also included some other relevant search terms such as “facebook ads manager”, “facebook for ads”, “facebook ads library” and “facebook ad costs”.
In addition to this it has generated other groups of keywords which include: Related, Questions, Prepositions and Comparisons. Make sure you click through all of these to see what the suggestions are and if any are relevant or their search volumes look promising.
The Questions group is useful as lots of people search for answers to their questions on Google and there might be some search terms that you have not already thought of, but are well equipped to answer. Questions make great titles for posts and videos and this is also a handy feature if you are looking to post articles on sites like Quora etc.
Ubersuggest includes a download feature so you can either copy all of the keywords to your clipboard or download them as a CSV file.
In addition to the keyword ideas, on the right-hand side of the screen Ubersuggest also provides what they term a ‘keyword overview’. This shows you the pages that are ranking highest for your search term and the monthly search volumes each of these pages receivers for that term.
It will also give you an idea of the backlinks and domain score that these pages have - which is an indicator of how much SEO work you would need to do in order to rank as highly as them.
When you click on one of these web pages you will be shown even more data - as you can see from the images below. You don’t need to overwhelm yourself with this extra detail, but it does provide a really useful insight - particularly if you know the content you are creating is going to be competing for exposure against some much bigger players in the market.
You can use this tool to find more targeted keywords or phrases that, especially if you are just starting out, you have a better chance of getting visibility and ranking on Google.
Ubersuggest for Content Ideas
Ubersuggest will also provide a list of articles related to your keyword term and include the estimated number of monthly website visits, the keywords the page is ranking for, the number of backlinks and the number of social shares for both Facebook and Pinterest.
In summary...
There is no quick win with keyword research, but this tool definitely makes it easy by being very user-friendly, easy to read and navigate and pulling various useful pieces of information all into one page for your convenience. Particularly if you are only looking at a couple of keyword ideas that you have.
If you need search volumes for a whole array of keywords, you will be better off using the Google Keyword Tool. You could always shortlist from these results and then run your favourite keywords through Ubersuggest to get even more insight.
I hope this helps with your keyword research and content creation. As always if you have any questions or thoughts - please feel free to comment below.
Have a great day! 😃
