The most important thing in any web business is traffic – lots and lots of traffic. Obviously, this assumes you actually have a reason for wanting this traffic. After getting the traffic you just need to convert it into subscribers and customers . . . but that’s the easy part. The important thing is getting the traffic and sustaining it.

Web 2.0 Methods

By web 2.0 we mean any site where the users actually create the content. The exciting thing about Web 2.0 sites is that you get to add your own content and it becomes part of these sites. The other interesting thing about these sites is that all the search engines (including Google) treat them as “authority sites”. The benefit of this to you is that your content is now considered as part of these sites. So, if you place links to your own site inside your content, you get a search engine ranking benefit from those links. This is the hidden benefit of using Web 2.0 sites. There are many more web 2.0 traffic tactics we don’t have time to get into here, but this will get you started.

Article Websites

The natural next topic is article marketing. Article sites are in essence web 2.0 websites. In typical web 2.0 fashion, article sites rely on user-generated content (i.e. your articles). Just as with the other web 2.0 sites, having your content included gives you immediate traffic and search engine ranking. But you also get the extra benefit of other users taking your article and putting it on their site. And in return for getting to use your content, these other users include links back to your website that gives you further search engine ranking and more free traffic. If you want to generate traffic from articles, follow these steps:

Do your keyword research

Tailor the content of your article for the keywords

Be sure to link to your site on the keywords you’ve chosen.

Do this inside the article itself and in your author’s bio.

Video Marketing

And finally, we need to talk about getting traffic from videos. Here too we’re really looking at a web 2.0 sub-category. And it carries all the same benefits of article marketing. And in addition to this, because Google and the others love video so much, you can get listed for highly competitive keywords much more easily.

OK, so how do you do effective video marketing?

Set up your YouTube account

Make your profile uncluttered by turning off all the modules

Add tags to your profile

Include a link to the main site in your profile

Add at least one video to your profile

Include your keywords in the title, description and tags
